You may be eligible for a FREE NHS Health Check.

Why have a NHS Health Check ?
Approximately 60% of today's most common diseases are linked to the way we live and are largely preventable. Having a NHS Health Check means that you can decide on what improvements you can make to your lifestyle and monitor the impact of those changes on your health. And what's more your pharmacist is there,as always, for advice.
 
What does a NHS Health Check include ?
A trained member of the Pharmacy team will ask you questions about your lifestyle and explain what is happening throughout the range of tests. The tests include the measurement and evaluation of:

    * Lifestyle (smoking, drinking and activity habits)
    * BMI (Body Mass Index) - height & weight
    * Blood Pressure and resting Heart Rate
    * Cholesterol*
    * Diabetes Risk
    * Cardiovascular Risk

*N.B. For the cholesterol check, only a small finger droplet of blood is required.
 
Results
A booklet containing your results, which will be fully explained, is given for you to take away. If further investigation is required, you will be advised during the consultation. A summary of your results will also be forwarded to your GP.
The consultation lasts about 30 minutes.
 
Free NHS Health Checks are provided for:
 
People aged between 40 and 74 who are registered with a GP within County Durham and Darlington PCT.
 
You are not eligible if you have previously been diagnosed with any of the following conditions:

    * High Cholesterol
    * High Blood Pressure
    * Diabetes
    * Any sort of heart problems (eg.angina, heart attack)
    * Stroke
    * Kidney problems

or
 
If you have previously had a NHS Health check with your GP or another pharmacist.
